J.P. MASCARO & SONS WINS $17 MILLION PHILADELPHIA SCHOOL DISTRICT WASTE SERVICE CONTRACT
The Philadelphia School District, one of the largest School Districts in the country, has a new waste service provider – J.P. Mascaro & Sons.
On June 16, 2010, the School Reform Commission for the Philadelphia School District awarded J.P. Mascaro & Sons a five year, $17 million waste service contract beginning July 1, 2010, to collect and dispose of trash from more than 300 School District locations.
Mascaro, a local Montgomery County based company, was chosen over two of the largest national waste companies in a comprehensive Request for Proposal process conducted by School District staff. The RFP process began in March 2010 with the submission of detailed proposals by interested bidders which were followed by bidder interviews by the School District Evaluation Team, and it concluded on June 16th with the Evaluation Team recommending Mascaro for the contract award and with the contract award to Mascaro.
Pat Mascaro, the President of J.P. Mascaro & Sons said: “Our company worked diligently to earn this contract, and the recommendation by the District’s Evaluation Team and the contract award itself by the Commission are extremely gratifying. To me, it is a recognition of the outstanding dedication and commitment of Mascaro management employees making the necessary effort to secure a contract of this magnitude. Our service reputation and commitment won this contract and we look forward to serving the School District for years to come.”
The School District contract involves front load, rear load, compaction, open top and curbside collection services for the 25,000 employees and 163,000 students in the District, and Mascaro is purchasing all new equipment for this contract. Also, at no charge to the School District, Mascaro will be performing “waste system audits” at each of the District’s 308 locations with the goal being to improve the economies and efficiencies of the District’s Waste Management System.
J.P. Mascaro & Sons is a premier supplier of comprehensive waste services in this regional area; it possesses a fully integrated company owned infrastructure that includes operating divisions, collection and transportation equipment, transfer stations, recycling facilities, composting facilities and landfills; it employees over 700 people; and it will be performing the School District contract out of its Delaware Valley Operating Division.
