A landfill will become a recreation park with walking trails, ball fields, tennis, basketball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, bocce, picnic pavilions and observation platforms. When Pioneer Crossing Landfill is filled and capped, (in about 20 years) it will become a public recreational park that all the community can enjoy. It will be named in honor of Ida E. Mascaro, wife of the late J. P. Mascaro, Sr., founder of J. P. Mascaro & Sons. Click on the picture for an enlarged view, or click here to download a high quality printable PDF file.
In just a few years, a portion of the park adjacent to Lincoln Road will open, providing horseshoes, shuffleboard, bocce and an observation platform and trail access to a wetland area. Click on the picture for an enlarged view, or click here to download a high quality printable PDF file.
Stream restoration: Pioneer Crossing plans the restoration and enhancement of the unnamed tributary stream to the Schuylkill River located east of the landfill along State Route 82. This stream restoration project will environmentally and aesthetically compliment the large ecological wet land area that Pioneer Crossing has developed and will be maintaining in proximity to the stream at the intersection of State Route 82 and Lincoln Road.
