GLASS: Food and beverage jars and bottles ONLY. CANS: Aluminum, steel, tin, or bimetal food and beverage containers ONLY. Rinse thoroughly. Remove all lids or tuck inside. Flatten whenever possible. No aluminum foil or food trays. No aluminum scraps. PLASTICS: #1 thru #6 containers ONLY. Look for a #1 thru #6 recycling symbol imprinted on the container bottom. Milk, juice and water bottles; trash and retail bags. #3 Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Versatility, clarity, ease of blending, strength, toughness. Juice bottles; #4 Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Ease of processing, strength, toughness, flexibility, ease of sealing, barrier to moisture. Frozen food bags; squeezable bottles, e.g. honey, mustard; cling films; flexible container lids. #5 Polypropylene (PP) Strength, toughness, resistance to heat, chemicals, grease and oil, versatile, barrier to moisture. Reusable microwaveable ware; kitchenware; yogurt containers; margarine tubs; microwaveable disposable take-away containers; disposable cups and plates. #6 Polystyrene (PS) Versatility, clarity, easily formed Egg cartons; packing peanuts; disposable cups, plates, trays and cutlery; disposable take-away containers; Other (often polycarbonate or ABS) Dependent on polymers or combination of polymers Beverage bottles; baby milk bottles; electronic casing. NEWSPAPERS & JUNK MAIL: Bundle and tie securely or put in a brown paper bag. Place paper items next to recycling container, not in container. No plastic delivery bags. Magazines, junk mail and home office paper may be put out with the newspapers. Recyclables do not have to be sorted. They can be commingled and put into the same container. Your recycling container should be an open-topped bin labeled RECYCLABLES. The container must be open-top or without a lid in order for our workers to recognize it. Care should be taken to avoid any glass breakage. Flatten items (except glass), if possible. |
