NORRISTOWN’S OCTOBER 12TH COLUMBUS DAY CELEBRATION FEATURES WELL-KNOWN STORY TELLER AND MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER – “FATHER JOE SICA”

As kids, we all learned that “Columbus discovered America in 1492” – on October 12, 1492 to be exact.  Five hundred and nineteen years later that man and his historic event are still being celebrated. In Norristown, that celebration will take place on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 11:15 a.m. at the Borough’s beautiful Christopher Columbus Commemorative Monument in the Elmwood Park at Harding Boulevard and Stergiere Street.

28 years ago, the “Hello Columbus Monument Committee” headed by Norristown native, Hank Cisco, constructed the Columbus Monument, and every year since on Columbus Day, a commemorative celebration has been held.  This year’s celebration will feature Italian-American, Father Joe Sica, as the guest speaker, and include a special dedication.

Father Joe is a gifted story-teller, retreat leader, and motivational speaker; he has degrees from the University of Scranton and Catholic University of America; he has served as a priest in the Scranton Diocese for 29 years; and he is a lifelong educator, a widely read author, and a renowned public speaker.  He has received many awards over the years, including being named as the “Man of the Year” by the Columbus Day Association in the Scranton area.

Father Joe is one of those speakers who has a down-to-earth style and who makes you laugh and feel good while at the same time delivering a message that is worth hearing.  As an Italian-American himself, Father Joe is the perfect guest speaker to honor the “first Italian-American”, Christopher Columbus, at Norristown’s commemorative celebration.
