MASCARO IS “TOPS” IN PHILABUNDANCE FOOD DRIVE – 61.8 TONS
Every year, Preston & Steve of WMMR 93.3 Radio sponsor a Camp Out For Hunger Food Drive to benefit Philadelphia’s largest food bank for the needy – Philabundance.
Historically, area companies compete for the honor of being the largest food donator, and this year, that honor belongs to J.P. Mascaro & Sons, a family owned Montgomery County based solid waste service company.
On the December 3, 2010 “weigh-in day”, 4 full tractor trailers worth of food donated by J.P. Mascaro & Sons and its employees tipped the scales at 61.8 tons – the most food ever donated by a single company.
“J.P. Mascaro & Sons really went above and beyond for the 2010 WMMR’s Preston & Steve’s Camp Out For Hunger,” said Bill Clark, President and Executive Director of Philabundance. “Their donation of 123,700 pounds of food (i.e., 61.8 tons) will provide over 123,000 meals to neighbors in need in the Delaware Valley. J.P. Mascaro & Sons truly lives up to its reputation as a family-run business that cares about the community,” added Clark.
Lindsay Mascaro, the company Director of Education and Community Relations, coordinated the company’s food drive effort and she was amazed at the result. “I’m so proud of our company and its employees, all of whom really worked hard to achieve the goal we set in September when we began our collection efforts,” said Mascaro. “It’s great to finish as the top food donator, but the real winner here is Philabundance who does tremendous work for the needy in our community. All the companies and individuals who participated in this food drive are to be congratulated,” she added.
Speaking about the food drive, company President, Pat Mascaro, said, “The effort of our employees in this food drive is reflective of the dedicated effort they make every day on behalf of our company. I couldn’t be prouder.” Mascaro added, “We are a community oriented company and the efforts of Philabundance in support of the needy in our community are second to none and we are happy to be a part of that effort.”
As the top food donator, Mascaro will have the privilege of hosting the popular Preston & Steve WMMR Radio Morning Show at its corporate headquarters in Audubon, Pennsylvania, sometime in the near future. “Our employees are looking forward to that day,” said Lindsay Mascaro.
